RFC 3367:

Two CNRP transport protocols are specified. HTTP is used due to its popularity and ease of integration with other web applications. SMTP is also used as a way to illustrate a protocol that has a much different range of latency than most protocols. In the cases where transports use MIME Media Types (HTTP and SMTP being examples of such), the CNRP payload MUST use the 'application/cnrp+xml' media type. One important note about this media type is that, since CNRP always uses UTF-8, there is no charset attribute.
